Whether you are in Toronto, Vancouver, or Montreal, the start of your career’s journey is the same wherever life takes you. It is the right of passage as one becomes a young professional. Many have made what may seem at one point, an endless hunt. The good thing is that it gets easier after each time. The bad part? It really, really sucks the first time around.
Puzzle
This blog post is dedicated to those who have decided to take on the daunting task, or for those who realize it is time to give your career a boost. Though in the end, it is sheer persistence which will push you over the top, here are some things you can do to which will help significantly.

1. Create/Update your LinkedIn profile
On the list of things to do this should be your top priority. If you’re new to LinkedIn, sign up, upload your resume, a picture, and start reaching out to people you know. The bigger your network the better chances of you being linked to a hiring manager.

2. Networking offline
Tell people you are currently job hunting and be specific about the job you are looking for, perhaps they may know a vacant job, or put you in touch with someone they know.

3. Work on your resume
Be thorough with your resume. You may know that you are the perfect candidate for the role you have chosen, but if that is not reflected by your resume it really doesn’t matter. And yes, the truth hurts.

4. Read the news
I think reading is often overlooked in aiding for a job hunt. It is always good to know what is happening around you for reasons such as generating conversation, or more importantly recognizing potential opportunities.

5. Take a day off
You may be wondering “but I have everyday off!”. Not really. Job hunting is a job in itself. Take some time during the week to go hang out with friends, work out, or even shop! It will refresh your mind for another round of sending out emails.
