In our first #CareerSavvy chat a few days ago, we tackled the subject of personal branding on resumes. We heard from a few experts and quite a few of our community members throughout the hour-long chat, speaking about everything from Profile versus Objective statements to whether or not your resume should reflect your personality as well as your accomplishments. Here’s what we learned.
Profile versus Objective Statements
Get ready to toss the Objective section on your resume—profile statements should be employed instead. Profile statements are a snapshot of who you are and what you can contribute, whereas Objective statements tend to offer little value. (Of course you want the job—you’re applying for it!)
Things are really heating up here at Vestiigo, and we’re looking for more ways to help you find, land, and succeed in your career. Starting on March 29, we’ll be featuring weekly Tweetchats under the hashtag #CareerSavvy, and we’d love for you to join in!
Every Tuesday at 12:30 EST, we’ll be tackling a different career-related topic that will provide useful insight, whether you’re looking for a new career or new ways to succeed in your current position. Looking for advice? Thinking about changing careers? Consider yourself an expert in your field? No matter what level you’re at in your career, join us for what’s guaranteed to be an interesting conversation.

• The Elements of Great Leadership
A little while back, we asked the Vestiigo community to tell us all about the best leaders they’ve ever had. We received some great replies and some really great insight into what qualities make a great leader stand out. Curious? Here’s what we found.

1. Great leaders have a business vision. A great leader will not only have a clear objective that defines the values of their business, but they’ll also communicate those values clearly to their employees. It’s hard to motivate a team if they’re not sure why they’re there. A clear vision makes it easier to give employees the resources they need to do their jobs well and also to remove obstacles that might hinder their productivity.
2. They’re leaders, not just managers. If employees feel like ducking under their desks every time their leader passes by, it’s a good sign that there might be too much micro-managing going on. A great leader believes in their employees’ abilities and won’t stand over their shoulder like a drill sergeant.
