1. Where do you work, what is your current position, and what does it entail? How did you end up getting it?
Currently I’m working with a start-up business called BOSS (Business Owners Success System). BOSS is a small business community and support network. Technically, my current position is as the BOSS Community Connector. When you are working with a start-up, you wear 10 different hats. For example, I have my hands in communications, marketing, sales, social media, design, strategy, system definition, process improvement, customer relations…

The winner of our Apple Gift Card Competition is Margaret Mansour – congratulations Margaret!
We’d like to thank everyone who participated and while you may not have won this time, look out for more great competitions with superb prizes coming soon. It’s just something we like to do.
We picked our winner by entering all the entries we received into a spreadsheet. We then used our good friends at Radom.org to generate a number between 1 and 85 (the number of entries) to identify the winning entry. In this case, it was lucky number 28!
Thanks again to all those who participated!

We’re often asked about what productivity tools we recommend and how they can be used to help in your everyday career. Well, shizam! Here you go. It’s by no means a comprehensive list, so let’s us know if we’ve missed any important ones!

Basecamp
This is one of the many slick products from our good friends over at 37 Signals. If you’ve ever worked on a project with more than one person, you’ll appreciate how easy and simple this tool is to use. It takes the pain out of project management, pure and simple.
Jigsaw is a business contact database and it’s free for those who put in as many contacts as they take out. If you’re looking for new business and want to identify who your main point of contact might be, this is a great tool.
This is in some ways quite similar to Jigsaw, but provides far more depth. If Jigsaw gives you the specific contact information, LinkedIn provides the rest of the picture. It has details, up-to-date information about companies as well as contact, such as previous employers, associations and schools attended. It also has the added benefit of telling you if you’re connected to a particular company or contact and to what degree.
Vestiigo.com is all about connecting great people with great careers across Canada. Recently, we’ve heard from another successful Vestiigo member, Kristin Peres. Kristin recently accepted an offer to work at I Love Rewards, one of North America’s leading employee incentive companies.

What is your new position, and what do you do?
I’m a Program Launch Manager at I Love Rewards. I assist our clients in designing and implementing points-based recognition and rewards programs.
How did you find this career?
I found out about it through Vestiigo! They have great careers listed on their site and I was just browsing through when I saw the listing for a position at I Love Rewards. I applied and was contacted for an interview soon after.
What was the interview/hiring process like?
The interview process at I Love Rewards is rigorous. I had a meet and greet interview, a skills interview, and a top-grading session that consisted of an hour-and-a-half of in-depth questions. I was so nervous, but every step of the way I was put at ease by everyone I met at the company.

Refer Vestiigo and Win a $100 Apple Gift Certificate!

It’s been great to see all the sharing and referring of Vestiigo that’s been going on. When we hear that someone’s joined because they’ve heard great things about our service from someone else, it not only brings a smile to our face but also causes us to spontaneously set-off a series of break dance “battles”. We’re not quite sure who starts them, but after a few hours of this the one thing we’re sure about is that it’s time to get back to work.
Why are we telling you this? Well, we wanted to sweeten the deal for all our members and fans to help us continue to spread the word about a simpler, easier way to land great careers at Canada’ best and brightest employers.
Starting Thursday September 9th, 2010 each person who “Fans” us or “Likes” our “Vestiigo members connect with Canada’s Best & Brightest Employers” post on Facebook will be entered to win a $100 Apple gift certificate. Saaaweeet! Put it towards a new iPad, a new iPod or even iPhone. Whatever you like!
The terms and conditions are simple. It’s open to everyone and entries in the draw are limited to one per person (so if you Fan us and Like us, you’ll still just receive one entry … but we’ll appreciate it!). Each entry will be assigned a number and we’ll then use a random number generator to select the winner. The promotion will end on Friday September 17th, 2010 and we’ll be announcing the winner the following Monday.
