We came across a really interesting Ted talk the other day on how great leaders inspire action. The talk was given by Simon Sinek, a marketing consultant, and the central theme of his presentation revolved around a concept he referred to as the “Golden Circle”.
The premise of the Golden Circle is that to truly inspire, you need to start with “why” rather than focusing on the “what” or the “how”. He gives the example of Apple and explains that if they were just like everyone else a marketing message from them might look something like this:
What: We make great computers.
How: They’re beautifully designed, simple to use and user-friendly.
Why: What to buy one?
He maintains that this is how most companies communicate; however Apple actually starts with the “why”, which explains how they’re able to differentiate themselves so well relative to their competition.
We recently welcomed Teri Playfair-Brown to the Vestiigo career community. Teri, previously a marketer at Harlequin, worked her way into the marketing industry from a proofreading position with her former employer. She’s recently been hired as a Marketing Specialist with BMO Bank of Montreal. She’s a key example of how determination and persistence can really pay off in your career path!
On Tuesday, we asked our Twitter followers one simple question: How many pages should your resume be? We heard a lot of great feedback from our members, including what you should include on your resume to make the most impact with employers.
At Vestiigo.com, we love hearing good news from our career seekers. Just recently, we heard from another successful Vestiigo candidate on her new position as a Product Specialist with Eloqua in Toronto. Meet Zainab Ali.
